The Boy Scout
The Boy Scout movement was founded in Great Britain in 1908 by a cavalry officer, Lieutenant General Robert S. S who later became Lord Baden Powell.
He saw the scouts as a means to promote an all-rounded education for young people – giving a sense of purpose, duty, patriotism and ability to work together.
The scouting program has a specific objectives which include:
Character development
Leadership development
Citizenship training
Personal fitness
There are seven ranks in scouting, they are:
Scout
Tenderfoot
Second class
First class
Star
Life
Eagle
Ideals –
The Ideals of scouting are spelled out in the scout oath. The scout law, the scout motor and the scout slogan
Outdoor Programs –
scouting is designed to take place outdoors. It is in the outdoor setting that scouts share responsibilities and learn to live with one another.
Scout Leaders/Masters –
Scout masters are role models for the members of their troops. He encourages them and take sincere interest in them to make a profound difference in their lives.
Uniform –
The uniform makes the scout troop visible as a force for good and creates a positive image in the community. It gives the scout identity.
Activities –
Scouts is where young people make new benefit. Scouting helps children develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethnics, leadership skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives.

Cub Scout – A Cub Scout is a member of the junior rank of the Scout Association for children aged about 5 – 10.
Cub Scout Promise – “A Cub Scout obeys his parent, his Akela (leader) and his elders, a cub scout always does his best.”
Cub Scout Promise – “I promise to do my best, to do my duty to God and my country Nigeria, to keep the Cub Scout law and do help someone every day.
